What I do.

  • guide families through the special education process

  • help families to understand their child’s educational rights

  • review evaluation, IEP, 504 service agreements, and other documents

  • assist IEP teams to write appropriate IEP goals, supports, modifications and accommodations

  • accompany parents and guardians to meetings with the school, including IEP meetings, discipline meetings, and mediation

  • assist with writing and submitting state complaints, mediation requests

  • observe student in educational or community settings

  • collaborate with other professionals involved in student treatment such as Wraparound services or Out of School Time Providers

What I charge.

Special Education Advocacy for Families provides all families with free initial consultation, up to 45 mins. During the initial consultation, I will complete a brief review of records and will ask questions to understand your child’s needs, to learn about your concerns, and to help you identify the next steps in the process.  

Please read below for more information about hourly rates and alternative rate schedules.

Hourly rates for consultation services

*There is an initial, one time, $150 new client fee that covers the cost of setting up the client portal, completing a thorough review of records, and identifying an immediate plan of action. Following the initial review of records, services are billed hourly at the rates listed here.

$75/hr

  • meeting with the family

  • meetings with school personnel such as evaluation, IEP or 504 meetings, or mediation

  • meeting with professionals involved in the child’s treatment or education such as Wraparound providers

  • review of records 

  • observation of your child in the educational and/or community setting 

  • written communication in the form of emails and/or other requested documentation 

  • phone calls

  • research and citations

  • Assistance with preparation of state complaint documents, mediation requests, or due process complaints. 

$50/hr

  • time to travel to and from meetings or school observations (There is no fee for virtual participation)

File Reviews.

This is a one time skilled special education document review of your child's recent evaluation(s) and IEP, or 504 Plan (up to 4 documents). The review will be conducted with an emphasis on identifying suggestions for any needed revisions to goals and instruction, strategies for advocacy, and a list of agency resources for additional support. 

****Please keep in mind that this service is not best for state or district-specific issues; systemic issues; or anything that involves continuing consultation, research, or advocacy. If any of these services are required, please request an Agreement for Services for ongoing consultation or advocacy. 

 

$250 flat fee, paid up front and includes:

  • one intake phone call or Zoom meeting, up to 60 mins

  • review of up to 4 recent documents 

  • follow up phone call or Zoom meeting to review findings, up to 60 mins 

  • written report detailing recommendations

  • And if needed, help to identify additional resources, such as outside agencies, providers, or evaluators 

Alternate Rates

 

At this time I am no longer taking any additional clients who qualify for the alternate rate schedule as I’m already at capacity. $25/hr for all of the above listed consultative services and meetings for those clients for whom one or more of the following applies:

  • Family receives Section 8 housing, WIC, SNAP benefits, or Cash Assistance from PAfor meetings with school personnel and assistance with complaint documents

$0/hr for all of the above listed services for those clients for whom one or more of the following applies:

  • Family experiencing homeless or receiving Refugee or Immigrant Assistance

  • My student with a disability is in Foster Care

  • My student with a disability is an adjudicated youth
